Constantine begins shooting

From CountingDown.com - Snipped for content, read the whole article here.

Michael Uslan had a whole boatload of news on the Warner Brother/DC movie front, which is good since they've been pretty much dormant so far. "I'll mention that we begin shooting 'Constantine' tomorrow...fantastic, fantastic script," enthused Uslan. "And I have to especially credit the people who have done such a good job, it's taken years to get this going...Lauren Shuler Donner, Lorenzo DiBonaventura. This is gonna be a good one, folks, it really is."

By the way, I will be reporting on his hair color this weekend.

You've persuaded me about the blond. And at a concert last weekend, there was an asian man sitting in front of me who had dyed his hair, with peroxide or sun-in or something, and it was exactly the color of caramel that I remember from those John Constantine comic illustrations. Of course, I thought of Keanu. I'm also coming round to that "light blond with the dark roots on short spiky hair" look too...it's all good.

Okay, how many comic books have been turned into movies? Off the top of my head I'm thinking...
1.Batman
2.Superman
3.Spiderman
4.Daredevil

Any others?? Was Underworld from a comic book I wonder? And yes, I am comic-book challenged, so if I forgot some *obvious* ones, be kind. :O)

Gahh,I just realized, out of all of them, I only liked Superman (though to be fair I didn't see DareDevil). I hope Constantine translates well to film (but it *is* Keanu, so I'm sure I'll dig it on one level or another). I'll find something! Heck, I own a copy of Even Cowgirls Get The Blues! :OP

If you're bored and/or know some Japanese, hover on over to the trailer for the Beat Takeshi (aka Takeshi Kitano) remake of Zatoichi. A Japanese guy with peroxide-blond hair. Not the hideous orange colour, but blond. It can work. But then again, Zatoichi can do a lot of damage to someone who says otherwise...

Not for people who don't like Japanese stuff!

You can tell I'm a Takeshi Kitano fan, ne?

Keanu doesn't have to go THAT blond, but some sort of blond shade can definitely work.

Sorry! Neophyte at work here! :(

Hey! -& goodmorning :-)!!! I just thought of something that will finally put those vicious rumors that Keanu's too vain to go 'blonde' (Bastards!) to rest!!!

He had blonde highlights in Brotherhood of justice!!! Ha!
I rest my case :-)

Could someone please help the francophone over here with a pronunciation issue? Is it Constan *tyne* or *teen* ? I've been using both and feeling stupid.

Posted by: Zen on September 26, 2003 07:40 AM

Ah, good point, Julie.

When you think about it, if he nails the character, the hair colour will be pretty irrelevant.

I hope Constantine is a good one too. The X-Men franchise really set the standard for comic book movies and I hope it can approximate that somewhat.

Posted by: Raiza on September 26, 2003 07:44 AM

Zen, it's pronounced "teen", comme en français.

Merci, ma chère Raiza. :)

D'uh, how could I forget X-men! :OP Thanks opcit!

Hey Julie, you took the post right out of my hands. I definitely remember that Keanu had gone through a dark blond/light brown phase in his mid twenties. Though IMO he doesn't look as striking as with his natural shade, it's Keanu so it's pretty damn good.

On pronunciacion, I asked Funk and he said "Alan Moore (Constantine's creator) pronounces it "ConstanTYNE""
