I haven't really sucked up to Don Davis yet, have I?

-via KeanuWeb, ComingSoon.net reports that Matrix composer Don Davis has a clip from the upcoming Matrix Revolutions score on his audio page.
The orchestral track is called Neodämmerung (good god, if I were keeping a list of words that qualified as foreplay, that would be in the top ten, and I don't even know what it means).
It has a choral element that makes me all goosepimpley. Go give a listen.

While I didn't have time to listen to anything else this morning (my work machine has no sound card), I certainly enjoyed looking at the titles of some of the tracks from Mr. Davis' other works, particularly the Wachowskis' Bound.
Hee.

From Morpheus over at Matrix Community:

Track from Revolutions soundtrack:

http://dondavis.filmmusic.com/project_detail.html?id=matrix_revolutions

It's called Neodammerung, or "The twilight of Neo". This is of course a reference to Gotterdammerung, or "twilight of the Gods", from Wagner.

Looking at the synopsis, we can make the followling identifications

Siegfried = Neo, Brunhilde = Trinity, Norns = the oracle, Gutrune = Persephone.

it ends as follows:

Brunhilde appears, she has learnt the whole story from the Rhinemaidens, she commands the men to build a huge funeral pyre for Siegfried, she takes the Ring which she will return to the Rhinemaidens after the fire has removed the curse, she calls to the Ravens, Wotans messengers, and bids them take a message to Wotan that the event he has been waiting for is about to take place, and on the way they are to go by the Valkyrie rock and tell Loge, who is still burning there, to go to Valhalla, she then lights the fire when it is fully alight she mounts her horse and rides into the flames, the Rhine overflows its banks and in the flood which pours over the fire the Rhinemaidens reclaim the Ring from the ashes, Hagen makes a desperate attempt to wrest the ring from them they grab him and drown him, a red glow appears in the sky Valhalla bursts into flames and consumes the castle and the gods, the river recedes leaving the earth cleansed and ready to start anew.

I did not post his conclusion.

I don't happen to agree with it.

Krix, if you think is the spoiler material, feel free to delete. I will understand.

God, I hope not. (RE: spoiler)

I think that it's just speculation so I don't count it as spoilery. Of course, you lost me at "Rhinemaidens" so I didn't even get through the whole quote...heh.
but DUDE!
I got massively spoiled on something reading SLASHDOT this morning. I'm so annoyed.
I'm not reading any more boards or threads.

Can you share the link?

Posted by: tyler on September 5, 2003 02:45 PM

sure, here you go.
Don't say I didn't warn you, though.

German opera! Wagner! I like him, he's so 'heavy' that I always think of him as the equivalent of a punk or a hardrocker in his age... He was Hitler's favorite composer, which has 'tainted' him a bit, even though that's not his fault.
Well, at least he wasn't a rug ranger ;-)

FYI; Here's what I learned from my grandmother:
Valkyries (or Walkure) are bloodthirsty, long-haired blonde maidens, who take the souls of the warriors to heaven after they've died on the battlefield.
Rhinemaidens are a metaphore for the treachery of beautiful but cruel women, who lure men with their female forms in order to rid them of their sanity and/or posessions.

It doesn't take a genius to see certain Matrix-characters in that.

btw; I'm a long-haired blonde maiden that lives fairly close to the Rhine-river, so these gals are my anchestors! *beams with pride*

Thanks for the link. No real surprises -- I have been hanging around too many Martix boards.

Here is a thought though, if you are referring to the Xfaust (whatever) storyline, the best argument that it is fake is the observation that the powers that be over at WB haven't forced the site to take it down the same way they made MatrixFans take down the JB scripts.

BTW, I think I have the wisp of an idea floating around my head. It has to do with the Oracle telling Neo "here take a cookie" and the fact that Smith always seemed to know where Neo was in Reloaded.

I am deleting my cookies as we speak. :)

Krix, I'm on my surf-break & I was just at the CNN site, and it says that there is a huge fire in Vegas, burning down a lot of houses. Are you allright?

*Please* don't turn into a little pile of ashes!!!!!

Posted by: Julie on September 5, 2003 04:37 PM

Ha! Ha! Ha! Tyler! That's a good one! Man, if you're right I think I'm going to freak out when I see Matrix 3. (It's okay, I promise it will be a quiet freak-out!). :O) Good thinkin'!

Krix, I hope everything is okay in your neck of the woods and they get the fire in Vegas under control! (((Krix))) ((Vegas))

There was a 4 alarm blaze last night on the complete opposite side of town from me. Quite dramatic to watch on the news. It was in a construction area, so there were no residents nor injuries. About 15M in damage though.
News story here.

Thank goodness! You're just 'hot' instead of 'burned'! ;-) *wipes sweat of forehead*
I always worry too much.

Oh geez. Tyler! That makes so much sense. I feel really stupid that I didn't associate the cookies with a computer program. This is getting too scary for me to contemplate, so I'm going to hide under my bed now.

Posted by: Chianti on September 5, 2003 06:30 PM

Chianti,

Agents will still find you.

Besides, if you are under your bed, how will you make it to the becky show?

Posted by: Tyler on September 5, 2003 07:33 PM

Oooh, glad you're okay Krix! Bummer about the structural damage though. At least no one was hurt!! Have a great rest of the weekend! :O)

Posted by: Natasha on September 6, 2003 04:46 PM

First things first. Krix, good to know that you were not affected (physically?) by that fire.

Honestly, spoilers don't bother me but I really regret having read that one at Xzaust. It is a real downer and I would hate for Neo to be treated in such an ignoble manner because damn it, it is ignoble esp. with him being THE ONE and all (that's how you'd treat a punk/bad guy not the hero). Tyler, I hope you're correct and this is a fake.

Yeah, and by the way Don Davis so rocks! Neodämmerung absolutely sets my blood pumping. They also should have used his music (Replicant something) for the Burly Brawl instead of just of that weird drum machine thing.

Posted by: Sunny on September 7, 2003 04:49 PM

They should have used anything besides what they did for the burly Brawl.
When I get the DVD I plan on muting it and playing something from the soundtrack, maybe the Rob Zombie.

I dont like the Matrix movies, but the score albums by DON DAVIS are amazing. I am a music academic and I have never heard such layered and pot-modern complexity in a long while. Thank you to Don Davis.
