On the Block

Got some money to blow?
There's a few interesting items up at eBay.

Topping the "Highest Priced" category is this prop from A Walk in the Clouds.

Dude, it's not even real chocolate.

If wardrobe's more your thing, how about a totally trashed vest worn in Bram Stoker's Dracula?
Note to Lori: Don't Do It!

If those are out of your price range, you might want to pick up this check written by Keanu from years ago.
Notice that it's made out to "Willy's Bail Bonds"....

Don'tcha wanna know the story behind that?

Heh, me neither.

one question
how come willy didn't cash the check?

Posted by: zel on June 3, 2002 05:10 PM

Check was probably collateral on making bail when he was arrested for DUI on May 5, 1993. As long as he made court appearance....I know too much information but check out this link: http://keanuweb.com/stories/1993_05.html

PS,

Krix is there any way you can choose a darker color for the messages. The pale gray is tuff to read.

ugh

Posted by: zel on June 3, 2002 06:10 PM

darkened the comments text, hope this works better.

I like that pic, but I wouldn't wear it on a t-shirt, at least not with that gaudy blue writing underneath.

Oh, and don't go crazy on eBay zel.
Take it from someone that has a whole lot of stuff she doesn't need. (not that I'd give any of it up!)

Man oh man, I'm NOT goin' there again. Nope, won't even go READ about the Harker vest this time. Dammit, krix, WHY'D you have to tell me?!

;)

Posted by: Lori on June 3, 2002 09:35 PM

OK, so I lied. I went, I looked, I LAUGHED!! Nobody's gonna pay that much for that thing. (yeah, I admit it, I was about to place a bid, until I saw the minimum amount. As Cipher says, "somebody up there likes me.")

Ooooh, but he WORE it - alot!

Aaaaaaaacccccckkk -- alright, I'm over it now.

I have a question: aren't there personal information about Keanu on the check? I know it sounds totally dumb, but I'm from Brazil and here we have ID number, social security and on the back we write down phone number and - sometimes - complete address.

And, another thing, isn't there a law against selling another person's check?????

Peace

If you look at a close up of the check: Its an an account for him in care of his attorneys. Chances are the bail bond guy knew the check was good.

Posted by: Tyler on June 4, 2002 06:30 AM

Do you really think that check is genuine? It's dated in November '93...that was during the filming of Speed. His arrest for DUI was in May of that year. The timing just doesn't make sense to me. Any thoughts?

can you make out the name in the memo line? he may have been bailing out a friend - and the check was cashed, you can see the bank stamps. $1K would be the fee for a $10K bail bond - probably a minor felony there, that's *way* more than a DUI bail bond would be.

Posted by: kd on June 4, 2002 08:43 AM

Jeez...did you see what that check finally sold for???? $604!

Posted by: Ann on June 4, 2002 12:17 PM

That final price is insane.

Posted by: krix on June 4, 2002 01:43 PM

I emailed the folks that are selling that bail check. The check was cashed, and this is what's written at the bottom:

Premium $810.00 & Coll. $190.00
Def 8 XxxxxxX

I would say that the Premium is the actual bail amount, and the Collection is the amount that the bondsman is charging for services. And it looks like Defendant #8, old XxxxxxxX, is the guy being bailed out. Perhaps a pal of Keanu's. Either that or XxxxxxX is an attorney in charge of Defendant #8, who might be Keanu himself...

Having done a Google search, I uncovered the fact that XxxxX has been in a couple of movies, right around that time - '92-'93. More than that I could not ascertain. So either XxxxxX was an actor friend of Keanu's, or as I said, an attorney who tried a little acting (not unheard of - witness the career of Ben Stein)...

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong...

Um, could we not explore this any further?
Thanks.

Hey, it's your blog. Feel free to remove the whole post if it offends you. And to the other person, no, it's not illegal to sell cancelled checks.

Posted by: Sparrowhawk on June 4, 2002 07:01 PM

Just checked on the vest again, and NO ONE has bid on it yet (with a little over a day left). Was I right or WHAT?! Price is way too high. Lucky for me...
