OK, which one of you works for NPR?

So, in my inbox today was THIS google news alert, which makes no freaking sense.

Here is the page it links to, with the obviously corrected text and here is the story that is almost as mind-boggling as the typo itself.

Of course, I can't believe that's a typo.

That's the subtle subterfuge of a Keanuist.

A couple of years ago, as I was setting up false accounts on some business software for training purposes, I used Keanu movie characters for the names. Of course, no one ever really saw them but me. Some Fight Club fan slipped this in when no one was looking, which is so awesome and appropriate I can hardly stand it.

Anyone else out there? Have you either accidentally or purposefully injected some Keanu content where none should be? Could you? Would you?

AHAHAHAHA! Haven't you noticed, it's a Keanu world and we just live in it. :) Actually, I have noticed that Keanu has creeped more and more into the mainstream. I hear Keanu mentions (or things that remind me of him) when I *least* expect it. For example some things that have happened to me; reading a comic strip that mentions him (especially when Speed came out-that haircut, ya know) or watching a baseball game (and the announcer says something about him!?) or driving on the freeway and seeing an old VW bus with a Dogstar sticker on it (with a woman driver natch) ;) or hearing a song from the Bill & Ted I soundtrack while I'm in the supermarket, it just goes on and on.... Not that I'm complaining. :) Happy 4th all you American peeps.

I use, like you, his movie characters, when trying to develop
a new layout for our catalogues or when testing a new software.

So you'll have Paul Sutton with a book on wines or Jack Traven has penned something on police work.
Yes, we do have books from other countries at our stores!
Did any of this ever get out? I don't honestly know!

Now that you mention it, I was developing a masthead for some internal communication and the main image showed a crowd of people so I slipped in an image of Keanu. I removed him before I sent the file to print but the few people that saw the comps got a kick out of it. I'll have to see if I kept a copy on file.

Does the Gorman Screensaver by kcrl.net on my computer at work count?

I had never noticed it had a little sound bite of Keanu's voice because my speakers were never on. Then, one day, I had the speakers on at high volume because we'd been listening to Christmas music the day before and I'd forgotten to turn them off. My boss was in my office discussing a file when all of a sudden we hear, really loud, "So is he cut, or what?"

I, of course, immediately recognized the voice and the line from Devil's Advocate. Fortunately, my boss was so surprised by the loud voice that the words didn't register. He just said "What was that?" I made something up and quickly turned my speakers off. I later disabled the sound bite.

I have never noticed anything like that before. But wouldn't that be cool if we could like put secret messages into our conversation to have people recognize him as a REAL actor or to have people go see his movies(not that he needs any help in that department).

ROTFLMAO @ Zen! Oh man, that's the funniest thing I've heard in a while. Thanks for sharing! *still giggling uncontrollably-thanking God I wasn't drinking anything at the time! Snork!* :)

Allison, I like the way you think. :) Possibly, saying something like (the first time)," Keanu Reeves is divine!" And the person you're talking to saying, "What??" "I said, Care for more wine?" Or something like that. ;)

Posted by: Judee on July 3, 2004 10:29 PM

I just use lines from his movies in everyday speech.

"Walk with me" [Devil's Advocate]

"I couldn't forget it if I tried" [Devil's Advocate]

"Wherever, whatever, have a nice day" [MOPI]

Stuff like that.

Or you could slip in into the conversation. "How are you today(Keanu is the best actor ever)?" Or "The weather (keanu rocks!)is quite chilly today(keanu deserves an Academy Award)." I saw that on E!'s show called What the.........? Awards. Anyone see it(it was really stupid).

Can't imagine what all this "subterfuge" is about LOL!

I work him into English tests I give my students.

Ex: Underline the prepositional phrase in the following sentences:

1) Keanu Reeves is in a band.

OMG! That IS mind-boggling! What's next? A performance of 'Singing in the rain' by Mr.Bush and his merry dancers?
'Night fever' by Kerry & the coconuts? Koffi Annan singing 'sexual healing' to speed up world peace?
The theme-song 'tomorrow' of the musical "Annie, the little orphan girl", sung in a heartwrenching version by Dick Cheney?

*snork*

Hm, I think I *might* have slipped in a Keanu reference when one of my ex-boyfriends wasn't performing the way I expected in a certain field ;-)

ROTFLMAO@Julie! *snork* indeed!
