Thumbsucker news

...[Tim] DeLaughter has been drafted to score the film "Thumbsucker," and may release the soundtrack on his own Good Records imprint. The Spree's Web site says the soundtrack will feature tracks from the group and possibly the late Elliott Smith.

I haven't heard The Polyphonic Spree before, but I think Elliott Smith's music is an excellent choice for this movie.

...also, as far as a release date goes, according to this interview with director Mike Mills...

RM: So when does [Thumbsucker] hit a theater near us?

MM: We'll try to get it into Cannes in May of 2004. Then it might actually come out next fall.

...we have a bit of a wait.

And when is this bloody movie going to come OUT, for Pete's sake??

According to Mike Mills (director) at the end of this interview, not until fall.

Hmmm, I should add that to the entry....

what's taking so long?! it's a little scary when they hold onto a movie for that long -- makes me afraid they're cutting it all to hell and ruining it for us all. i say bring it on...

hot damn... I was kinda hopin it'd be out during march like it supposedly had for a belgian release or something on the page for the movie...(obviously not to happen because it *is* march and we'da known if it was by now..)
Hopefully May'....if not we'll get a double dose of keanu flicks around september:)

I think the independent movies take a little longer to distribute. It's a lot easier when you have a studio's capital and distribution machine.

whilst i agree that the sooner Thumbsucker is released, the better for us all and mankind globally - i also have to say that knowing Polyphonic Spree are scoring it is the best news. they are great, and absolutely ideal for Thumbsucker. they have such a very cool, art-house feel-good, whacky in a good way, do what you believe vibe. i'm thrilled at this news.

thanks, krix.

It would be cool for it to be at Cannes... since that's in May and the Belgian release (how come they get to know?) is listed as May 12th maybe we will get it before the Fall. It would be nice to spread out Keanu (sexual innuendo intended) over the next few months.

I'm still waiting for SGG. But I'm really, truly looking forward to seeing Thumbsucker. Read the book and I think it has the material to be something great.
